The Dutch Wadden Islands
Leave everything behind you. On the ferry to the Wadden Islands Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog you end up in a different world.

A cute seal on a sand flat is watching you. Shrieking sea-gulls above your head. On the Wadden Islands you discover exceptional flora and fauna, peaceful beaches and authentic villages. Each island sustains its own atmosphere.

Go Wad hopping
Difficulties with choosing one of the Wadden Islands? Hop around. This is a great way to discover all Wadden Islands. There are special arrangements available at Tourism offices in Friesland.

Vlieland is an oasis of tranquillity. The smallest of the four Frisian Islands, it is the farthest from the mainland. To preserve this quietness and the island’s natural flora and fauna, no cars are allowed on Vlieland.
Terschelling, the largest Frisian Island, has something for everyone: endless cycling and hiking through the dunes or going out to enjoy one of the local restaurants, bars or cafés. Each village has its own character.
Ameland offers plenty of scenic areas covered in woods and heath. A hundred kilometres of cycle paths provide plenty of variation. And terraces in villages such as Nes are nice diversions.
Schiermonnikoog has the widest beach in Europe. At the eastern tip of the island, the beach fans out into an enormous sand flat. Utter silence surrounds you.
Texel is the biggest Dutch Wadden island. The ferry journey takes 20 minutes and goes every hour. Texel is famously known because of its enormous amount of sheep and birds.
